Empowering All Students

by The K-12 Counseling Team | Monday, Mar 01, 2021

Did you know this month is gender equality month? Gender equality involves empowering all students and providing them with the same human rights. It also includes correcting biases students hold about themselves or gender identities other than their own. Gender equality does not only affect women, there are many other genders and orientations that are also discriminated against. Gender based discrimination creates negative stereotypes that may impact a students perceptions, beliefs, and opinions on the types of careers they can pursue, the roles they must fill, and their capabilities. By overcoming gender stereotypes, hopefully we can create a safe environment where students are free to express themselves without limits.

WHAT CAN YOU DO TO SUPPORT GENDER EQUALITY?

  1. Be a role model: Challenge rigid gender stereotypes and promote diverse interests.

  2. Try not to connect gender to an ability or personality trait, give the freedom to choose.

  3. Include gender equality in your experiences.

  4. Teach your children to be aware of personal biases. This is a great time for discussion!

WHAT'S GOING ON AT SCHOOL THIS MONTH:

Students are gearing up for Spring Break this month! In doing so, be on the lookout for our Fun in the Sun Spirit Week at A.D. Henderson & FAU High School! We are so excited to have some fun with our students and can’t wait.

DID YOU WATCH OUR LAST COUNSELOR COFFEE TALK?

Our elementary and middle school counselors spoke to parents about anxiety and the general fears and worries our students face. If you missed it and are interested in learning more, please click on the corresponding recordings and/or presentation links below!

IF YOU SUSPECT YOUR CHILD IS EXPERIENCING ANY DIFFICULTIES WHETHER ACADEMICALLY, SOCIALLY, OR EMOTIONALLY, PLEASE ENCOURAGE THEM TO SEEK THE SUPPORT OF THEIR SCHOOL COUNSELOR OR OTHER TRUSTED ADULTS.
