In the blink of an eye, the 2023 school year is coming to a close.  The School Counseling Team kicked off this year with a vision to integrate support services, K-12, and build relationships with students, parents, and faculty/staff.  Our reflection on the 2023 school year has us geared up and excited for further implementation next school year.  Personalization is key as we move forward with state and district initiatives.  See below for updates from elementary, middle, and high school.  We wish you a summer filled with wonderment!

Elementary – Ms. Deskin

It’s been a busy last few months in the elementary school.  Students have been writing back to their older friend from the Banyan Place.  Our students in K-2 are learning about empathy, and our students in 3-5 are learning how to regulate their emotions during testing season. We are all preparing to move up to the next grade and getting ready to say goodbye to our amazing 5 th  graders!

Middle – Mrs. Kean

School counseling in the middle grades is currently focusing on learning to regulate our emotions and behaviors as we approach the school year's testing season. Additionally, we are gearing up to welcome the rising 6 th  graders, as we bid farewell to our beloved 8 th  graders with a promotion ceremony.

High – Ms. Sheldon, Mr. Bell

School counselors adopted the role of academic advisors for the first time at FAU High and working with 10-12 th  graders to create roadmaps to their goals has been extremely rewarding. Guiding students to choose a meaningful and well-balanced course schedule opened dialogues surrounding passions, strengths, and interests. Seeing a spark in students’ eyes when talking about their dreams is truly remarkable, and it is an honor to be a part of their journey.

Relationships were at the forefront of school counseling for the 2022-23 school year to support students academically and emotionally. I have high hopes for the 2023-24 school year with intentions to foster relationships with key stakeholders at the university level in hopes bridge the gap between high school and college stakeholders in supporting students’ unique educational opportunities.
