NASA Science Research Experience with Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute

Thursday, May 11, 2023

Thirty FAUHS students took part in a two-day NASA Science Research Experience, developed by Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute ( HBOI ) scientists.

Dr. Jordon Beckler, Dr. Tim Moore , and team offered the Research Experience  as part of a NASA-MUREP project that aims to explore ways to identify and quantify sediment-derived carbon in the coastal ocean while also providing unique learning opportunities for students to get involved in NASA ocean science research. Students visited HBOI where they took a boat trip on the Indian River Lagoon to collect water and sediment samples, performed optics experiments, and toured some of the other HBOI labs to learn about the other research happening at the Institute. On day two, students learned to access and analyze satellite data from NASA. What an incredible experience!
