School Counselors Amplify Student Success
by K-12 Counseling Team | Wednesday, Jan 28, 2026
February is an exciting month for school counseling programs across the nation! From February 2 - 6, 2026, schools celebrate National School Counseling Week, sponsored by the American School Counselor Association (ASCA). This special week recognizes the essential role school counselors play in supporting student success and strengthening school communities.
Why School Counselors Matter
The 2026 theme, “School Counselors Amplify Student Success,” reflects the meaningful and far-reaching impact school counselors have on students’ lives—academically, socially, emotionally, and in future planning.
Every student deserves access to a school counselor who can help them:
- Develop academic achievement strategies
- Learn to manage emotions and cope with stress
- Build and apply positive interpersonal skills
- Explore interests and plan for postsecondary and career options
How School Counselors Support Students
School counselors work proactively with students to:
- Examine their abilities, strengths, interests, and talents
- Set healthy, realistic, and optimistic goals
- Build skills for success both inside and outside the classroom
- Navigate challenges with confidence and resilience
They focus on the whole child—supporting academic, career, and social/emotional development at every grade level.
Partners in Education
School counselors do not work alone. They are deeply engaged in:
- Partnering with parents and caregivers as they navigate the challenges of raising children in today’s world
- Collaborating with teachers and school staff to create an inclusive, supportive learning environment
- Advocating for systems that allow all students to reach their full potential
Highly Trained Professionals
School counselors are certified, experienced educators who hold a master’s degree in school counseling. Their specialized training—combined with classroom and school-based experience—makes them an integral part of the total educational program and a vital resource for students and families.
Join Us in Celebrating National School Counseling Week
During the week of February 2, we encourage students, families, and staff to take a moment to:
- Thank their grade level school counselor
- Mrs. Johnson: K-5
- Mrs. Kean: 6-8
- Mr. Gaspar: 9
- Mrs. Magrisso: 10-12 (A-K)
- Mr. Bell: 10-12 (L-Z)
- Learn more about the services school counselors provide
- Recognize the positive difference school counselors make every day
Together, we celebrate how school counselors truly amplify student success—today and for the future.
Wishing our students and families a positive and productive February!
