OWL COMMUNITY

While the main focus for students will be studying to earn their degree, campus life is about learning so much more. Students get involved and find their passion within their own community. With over 30 FAU High School and more than 400 Florida Atlantic University student organizations and teams, students can volunteer, play FHSAA sports, improve their campus, make lasting friendships, and have fun!

The Owl community extends well beyond the school campus and enters the students’ homes.

The Cane Institute for Advanced Technologies

Founded by Dan Cane, The Cane Institute serves as the epicenter for research, education and technology transfer for A.D. Henderson & FAU High School. The Institute’s integrated approach to solving society's toughest problems engages the best and brightest students, faculty, and resources at A.D. Henderson & FAU High School to explore today's most complex challenges in arenas such as cybersecurity, autonomous vehicles, robotics, virtual reality, augmented reality, automation and artificial intelligence.

Research

The Florida Atlantic Laboratory Schools Research Program exposes students in grades K-12 to research and scholarly inquiry in a variety of disciplines to ignite their curiosity and create solutions to local, state, national & international problems.

In addition to research experience for students, as a part of our schools mission, we endeavor to conduct and support educational and developmental research within our school systems through our OPK-12 Research Committee. Through these research initiatives, we improve education for our own diverse student population as well as those at educational institutions across the country.

The Office of Pre-K-12 Schools and Educational Programs Research Committee is a collaborative group that oversees research in and with our schools and educational programs. Please contact us with any questions, comments, or to initiate a project.

K-12 School Counseling Program

The School Counseling Team provides comprehensive counseling programs that incorporate prevention and intervention with continuous academic, career, and personal/development activities that will prepare students for meaningful participation in a diverse, changing world. These activities include classroom lessons, small groups for skill mastery, individual counseling for students with specific needs, and a variety of other proactive and innovative ways to support student performance.

Program Cost

FAU High School, part of the Florida Atlantic University Lab School District, operates as a public developmental laboratory school affiliated with Florida Atlantic. As a public institution, it follows the statutes and regulations set forth for Florida public schools.

As an early college program, there are no tuition costs, lab fees, or costs for required course textbooks for students. Each semester, families are financially responsible for an FAU Parking and Transportation fee that is used for the university transportation and access roads, etc. Additionally, families are responsible for an electronic device rental and orientation fee.

In addition to the limited university fees, in accordance with Section 1002.32, Florida Statutes, the school may charge an activity and service fee. This annual fee is used to support a range of student activities and resources that enrich the educational experience. Families are also responsible for this fee, which contributes to the diverse opportunities available to students.

To see a summary of these costs, visit our  Program Cost page .

Community Service

Community service does more than uniting the area in which it is done, but it also educates students in understanding diversity, leadership, problem solving, and being a citizen of a larger group. FAU High School is committed to not only making a difference in the lives of all students that walk through our campus, but the lives of our neighbors and friends.

Athletics

While community is vital to a successful education, competition in the form of athletics is a healthy balance to the holistic development of an FAU Owl. The A.D. Henderson athletic program highlights the value of each component of a team and respect for teammates and opponents. The Athletic Department emphasizes sportsmanship, teamwork, respect, fun, and commitment. We offer 7 different sports and 14 different teams for our elementary and middle school students.

Clubs

FAU High School students have the best of all worlds - an intimate high school campus and a thriving research university. No two Owls are exactly the same, and we offer clubs and activities to reflect that diversity. Among the 40+ groups at FAU High School, and the over 400 groups at Florida Atlantic University, there’s something, or maybe two or three “somethings”, for everyone.

To find a club offering or learn about meetings, visit our  Clubs & Student Organizations page .

After School Program

The Henderson Enrichment School Program (HESP) is an educational after school hours service offered to all of our students attending A.D. Henderson University School & FAU High School. Operating hours are from dismissal until 6:00 pm on regular school days as well as on most early dismissal days.

The goal of teh HESP staff is to provide a safe, nurturing, learning environment for students needing care after the regular school day. We strive to maintain the same high standards of excellence in the Henderson Enrichment School Program that are evident during the Henderson school day.

Parent Teacher Organization

The FAU Schools Parent Teacher Organization is a very involved group of people who work hand in hand with teachers and staff for the benefit of our students. Volunteering as part of the PTO is the best way to support your school, your teacher and your child! We have events occurring all year long.

Consider becoming a member of the PTO and help us maximize the impact of the educational experience for all kids at Florida Atlantic University High School.
