FAU High school research program
The FAU High School Research Program exposes students in grades K-12 to research and scholarly inquiry in a variety of disciplines in order to ignite their curiosity and create solutions to local, state, national & international problems.
The FAU High School Research Program consists of a set of research courses and individualized mentoring that guides students through the process of learning necessary, industry-standard research skills, and completing a publication- worthy research project. After developing and honing their research interests, students have the tools to follow their curiosity through the research process and solve real-world issues.
Training includes introducing students to research being conducted at FAU and affiliated research institutes, developing necessary research skills, identifying a faculty mentor, completing a research project proposal, funding their research, analyzing data, and presenting and publishing research results. This program enables our exceptional students to refine their career paths and develop research skills that set them apart from their peers when pursuing future opportunities.
Owls Imaging Lab:
The Owls Imaging Lab is a one-of-a-kind research laboratory that provides students access to cutting-edge equipment to work on high-level research projects, including cancer treatment research, vaccine development, and prosthetic creation, among others. Students are able to research some of the world’s most challenging problems at an early age, can share that research and publish it in peer-reviewed journals.
The lab includes a micro computed tomography scanner; scanning electron microscope; microtome and embedding station; inverted compound microscope; and stereoscope and is available to students and faculty at FAU High School and all FAU colleges.
The goal of this open-access research hub is to foster collaborations between our students and university mentors that provide the opportunity for enhanced teaching, demonstrations, experimentation, and data collection that ultimately result in high-quality publications and presentations.
